Born in Lyons, GA, a small rural town west of Savannah filled with onion fields, Wally spent a good part of his youth helping his grandparents at their Pharmacy store, Rexall drugs. His father eventually moved to Atlanta, where he started his own business, Henderson Hardware in the heart of Atlanta.
Barely 19 years old, Wally landed a job with CNS bank where he was eventually transferred to Orlando, Florida in 1972. Tirelessly working to provide for his young family in their new town, he had many side jobs to include painting, dishwasher repair and even sweeping out warehouses for his banking clients.
His work ethic and determination landed him a job with DSJ Development, one of the largest developers in the southeast. Wally rocketed to the top becoming President of the company. During this time, he was instrumental in dealing with the various government corridors in the development of the Silver Star/Shader Road Commerce Center and Parkway Center in Northwest Orlando, Cranes Roost and the Central Parkway Bridge in Altamonte Springs, just to name a few.
The picture Wally is holding is near and dear to his heart. The Metcalf Building, one of the first multistory buildings in Orlando back in the 1920’s, on the corner of Orange and Pine streets in Downtown Orlando was fully restored by Wally and his team.
After retiring from DSJ, Wally started his own business in 1989, known today as J. Wallace & Associates, Inc. He has continued over the years to construct facilities and represent a small cadre of customers all over the state for their real estate needs.
Wally continues coming into the office on a daily basis and continues to be one heck of a mentor to his sons and many others.
